Shotokan Karate of America is unique in the martial arts world because in addition to being known as the most traditional martial art, it has always has areas of expertise associated with levels. For instance, in addition to lessons designed to enhance self-control and group command the first few years focus on general association with martial arts including forms, basics, drills, fitness, stand up fighting, and throws . The second phase is application of fighting techniques and refinement of advanced forms. The third phase is the lifelong application of Karate-dō. By interconnecting the techniques from all martial arts Karate-dō teaches balance and power. For instance, at each level of Karate-dō the instructors spend several years acquiring the skills of: |

This is traditional training in Karate-dō. The unique aspects of the Tiger's Den and the Shotokan Karate of America's approach is that in addition to basic fighting skills, aka Kumite, grace and tradition are also taught by way of Kata (traditional forms emphasizing: breathing, , speed, grace, timing, and the mind).
